2025 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Please submit all applications electronically, if possible. [Letter applications will be accepted but must reach the HSL commissioner not later than June 25th (not just postmarked by that date)]. In order to submit an electronic application please copy the information related to your application below to an email and then provide the requested information. Be sure to include your personal statement in the body of the email or as an attachment. Please also be sure to attach your letter of recommendation or forward it as part of your email thread and send it to your team representative no later than June 25th. Team representatives - please copy and paste the information required below into the email and forward the received email (and attachments) to the HSL commissioner no later than July 1st. A return receipt is recommended for both emails. |
A Scholarship Program was established in 1995 by the Herndon Swim League to help an HSL graduate defray a portion of their college expenses. In 1998 the Herndon Swim League expanded this program to choose two graduating senior swimmers to receive a cash award to be used at the colleges of their choice, and in 1999 it was decided to award a minimum of six scholarships. This number may increase depending on the results of the Annual Silent Auction.
Minimum Requirements are:

Member in good standing of any Herndon Swim League team, with at least one previous year prior to this season on a league team.

A graduating member of the Class of 2025 from an area high school with a 2.0 grade point average or above.
The nomination should be prepared and submitted by the applicant, but must be reviewed and submitted by the Team Representative. Please include the following information:

HSL accomplishments (Team awards, All-Stars, etc.)

Other swim team activities (coaching, event planning, etc.)

Academic achievements (include high school(s) attended and grade point average).

College or other school nominee will attend. Include area of intended study.

Community activities.

Any other relevant information.

A Personal Statement by the applicant concerning why they should be selected for the scholarship.Include information on the importance of swimming to you and how it has affected or influenced your life.

Attach only one brief letter of recommendation from a coach, teacher, employer, etc. (May not be from a parent or any other relative.)

Criteria to be used by the League in selecting the recipients: The primary consideration will be the applicant’s dedication and contributions to their swim team over the years. Other items to be considered, in the following order, are school accomplishments, community service, academics and swimming accomplishments. These criteria will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee which will make the final decision. The nomination package must be submitted to the Team Representative electronically (preferred) or by hard copy by June 25th (if you received this by hard copy - see website for more information - https://hsl.swimtopia.com/scholarship).
